Egg Profit Calculator
This calculator estimates monthly revenue, feed cost and margin for a layer flock. It helps you see whether your current egg price covers feed and running costs, and what tray price you need to break even.
How to use it
- 1 Enter flock size and measured lay rate.
- 2 Enter feed intake per bird and your feed price per kilogram.
- 3 Add the egg price you actually receive and any labour, health or transport cost.
The numbers are estimates, not a promise. Use your own farm records where you have them.
Questions
What is a fair profit margin for eggs in Kenya?
Most commercial layer farms target a gross margin of 20% to 35% after feed. Anything below 15% leaves very little room for disease, price swings or delayed payment.
Should I include my own labour in the cost?
Yes. If you work on the farm full time, put a realistic salary in other costs. A farm that only looks profitable because labour is unpaid is not profitable.
Why is feed the biggest line?
Feed is normally 65% to 75% of layer running cost. A 5% change in feed price moves profit more than a 5% change in egg price.
