How to use it

  1. 1 Add every cost for the cycle, including chicks or pullets, feed, health, labour and transport.
  2. 2 Enter the eggs you realistically expect to sell, after mortality and rejects.
  3. 3 Enter your planned price per egg.

The numbers are estimates, not a promise. Use your own farm records where you have them.

Questions

What costs belong in break-even?

Everything you pay for the cycle: birds, feed, vaccines, labour, power, transport and a share of equipment depreciation.

Should I use all eggs laid or saleable eggs?

Use saleable eggs. Cracked, dirty and very small eggs should be counted separately or left out.

Why does my break-even keep moving?

Feed price, lay rate and mortality move it most. Recalculate whenever feed price changes.
