What to buy and when
Most farmers buy in the wrong order. Housing and water come before birds, and feed comes before equipment. Here is the practical sequence.
Pullets or chicks
Start with vaccinated stock from a known hatchery. Point-of-lay pullets shorten the wait but cost more per bird.
See chicks and pulletsThe right feed
Chick mash, then growers mash, then layers mash. Do not stretch stages to save money, because production drops further than the saving.
