Why we are building it

Demand outgrew the one-acre farm

The current farm sits on one acre. It carries 75,000 layers and a brooder with capacity for 35,000 chicks. Those numbers were enough to build a name, but not enough to keep pace with orders.

There have been moments when depots had to wait for eggs to accumulate before they could open. That is a supply problem, not a sales problem. Poultry City is the answer: more houses, more birds, and a steadier flow of eggs.

"We are one of the few businesses that cannot advertise, because what we are producing is far below what the market demands."

Ken Kiura, Co-founder

What is being built

A phased layer city, not a single shed

The 18-acre site is being developed in phases so that each stage can be stocked, staffed and supplied before the next one opens. At completion, the site is designed to hold 300,000 layers.

Layer houses

Purpose-built houses for Hy-Line Brown and Kenbro layers, with room to expand in step with demand.

Brooder and pullets

Brooding capacity for day-old chicks, so pullets can be raised on the same site and moved into layer houses.

Feed and egg handling

Feed milling and egg packing on site, keeping the value chain in one place instead of moving between suppliers.

Where we are

Phase 1 has started

The 18 acres were secured on lease at the end of 2025. The first batch of day-old chicks has been placed in Phase 1. The work now is to prove the systems at this scale before the next phase.

The target at completion is 300,000 layers. We are not there yet. This page will track the build as each phase comes online.

A note on figures

Current flock, brooder and feed figures describe the working farm today. The 18-acre and 300,000-layer figures describe the Poultry City plan at completion. They are targets, not current production.
