Different commercial breeds possess distinct thermoregulatory capabilities and metabolic rates that dictate their response to transport conditions. For instance, fast-growing broiler hybrids often have higher respiration rates and are more susceptible to dehydration during transit compared to slower-growing dual-purpose breeds. Knowing these comparative metrics helps you prepare the correct ambient temperature and humidity levels before the chicks even reach your door, ensuring that the brooder environment matches their biological readiness rather than relying on generic industry averages.

The integrity of the transit vehicle is the primary defense against thermal shock and asphyxiation during transport. Before loading, you must inspect the ventilation intake to ensure it is unobstructed and that the air exchange rate can maintain oxygen levels above 19 percent.
